The CAMBER consortium gathered in Zagreb on 3 and 4 June 2025 for its first in-person consortium meeting. Hosted by partners FPZ and EIRA, the two-day event brought together representatives from the 14 project partners to review progress, launch new activities, and align priorities for the months ahead.
Laying the groundwork for safer road infrastructure
Day one of the meeting focused on the technical progress across key work packages. Partners presented deliverables including the project’s Data Management Plan, Ethics Management Plan, and Risk Management Plan, which together form the foundation for responsible research and innovation.
Discussion then turned to the project’s methodological and technical framework (WP2), where partners reflected on recent progress, ongoing challenges, and upcoming activities through the end of 2025. The consortium also reviewed the tools and approaches being developed for data collection and fusion (WP3), including the selection and deployment of sensors and probe vehicles in upcoming pilots.
The afternoon sessions covered the development of digital twins for road safety assessment (WP4) and the preparation of pilot demonstrations in five countries (WP5). The day concluded with a dedicated session on communication, dissemination, and exploitation strategies (WP6), ensuring that CAMBER’s work reaches road authorities, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
Planning pilots and site activities
The second day provided space for deeper technical collaboration. Each active work package held focused sessions to plan upcoming tasks and coordinate joint activities. These included the launch of WP3 and WP4 tasks related to data collection and simulation, as well as the start of WP5’s site preparation for real-world testing.
In the afternoon, partners had the opportunity to join a study visit with the Croatian Road Administration. The visit offered valuable local insights and a practical perspective on current road maintenance challenges, which will inform CAMBER’s work going forward.
Next steps in the CAMBER journey
The Zagreb meeting marked an important moment for the CAMBER project as it transitions from planning to implementation. With technical foundations now in place and fieldwork set to begin, the project is entering a crucial phase of testing data-driven, cost-effective maintenance interventions.
